Tiruchirapalli City Corporation DMK Councillor Muthuselvan has successfully prevented the laying of new Rs 20 lakh concrete road at Periyakothamangalam that comes under the corporation's 40th ward in the city from the Local Area MLA Constituency Fund of former AIADMK Minister and Tiruchirapalli West MLA M Paranjothi.

Mr Muthuselvam told the mediapersons soon after presenting a petition to the District Collector and returning officer of the Tiruchirapalli Lok Sabha Constituency Jayashree Mualidharan.

Though the tender formalities had been completed six months ago, what was the necessity for the respective contractor and the officials of the corporation to commence the laying of new concrete road today, asked Mr Muthuselvan. He said if we are allowed to take this work today, the contractor would complete the work in a hurried manner and the quality of work will not be good.

When asked about the reaction of the collector to the petition, he said she immediately contacted the Corporation Commissioner and asked him not to proceed with the work. Though Mr Muthuselvan claimed his action of preventing the laying of the new concrete road was to ensure the quality of the work it was anybody's guess if the project was completed at present, it would be favourable to the uling AIADMK in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

The Lok Sabha election is scheduled on April 24.
