Jnanpith award winners call for rejecting BJP, Modi
Renowned writers and literary figures in Karnataka today batted for Congress by saying that electing BJP Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi will be dangerous to country's democracy.
Speaking at a press conference at Press Club of Bangalore here, Jnanpith awardees U R Ananthamurthy, Girish Karnad and other writers warned against bringing the BJP to power as under Mr Modi the country will have to face 'dictatorship'.
'Congress party may be highly corrupt but its mind is not corrupted unlike Mr Modi's and that of most of the BJP leaders'. This is dangerous to the nation. So we (writers) have decided to support Congress in Karnataka,' Dr Ananthamurthy said.
He said the writers had formed a platform comprising 'contemporary thinkers' and it will work for the success of Congress party in the State.
The state goes to polls on April 17.
'If one sees the body language of Mr Modi, it scares people and it is dictatorial in nature. By projecting him, the RSS is spinning illusionary stories to hoodwink people and they should not fall into the trap,' Dr Murthy warned.
He regretted how BJP had ousted leaders of liberal thinking like Jaswant Singh from the party.
Dr Murthy expressed confidence that Congress had the strength to defeat BJP and this was the reason he was supporting it.
Meanwhile, Mr Karnad alleged that Mr Modi was 'embodiment' of violence and he had made it a way of life. BJP leader Ananth Kumar is seeking votes saying that he follows his (Modi) ideals. When he had done little for development of Bangalore South segment, he should be rejected by the people and support Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani, he said.
