Agencies ready to enter markets in Punjab to procure wheat crop
All the procurement agencies of Punjab are ready to enter in the market for the procurement of new wheat crop.
Though the state government earlier announced to enter in the market from April 1 but due to inclement weather and hail storms in this month, harvesting would be delayed atleast for 10 days.
Announcing this here today, Food and Supplies administrative secretary D S Grewal said Punjab expected to procure 115 lakh Metric Tonne (MT) wheat during the current season as compared to 111 lakh MT last year.
The state government has set up 1,799 purchase centres, including 149 principal purchase centeres and 275 sub yards, for the procurement of wheat, he added.
According to Mr Grewal, the government has made arrangements for storage of 130 lakh MT wheat and adequate arrangement of gunny bags stock. The RBI has already sanctioned limit of Rs 14000 crore for the wheat procurement, he said.
