Congress manifesto offers separate ministry for fisheries: Antony
The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) would set up a separate ministry for fisheries if voted to power again, Working Committee member and Defence Minister A K Antony today said.
Speaking at a 'Dilli Chalo' programme organised by the Calicut Press Club ahead of the general election in the country, the offer found place in the Congress manifesto released recently.
Many of their important issues, including kersone, would be taken up and resolved with the formation of a separate fisheries ministry, a long pending demand of fisher folk in Kerala, he said.
It also offered interest free loans to students hailing from poor strata of society to pursue higher education, he added.
