Skipper Darren Sammy smashed an unbeaten 34 to snatch the World T20 match from Australia as they defeated opponent by six wickets here on Friday.


Chasing Australia's 178 for eight, West India reached 179 by losing four wickets with two balls to spare.

Needing 42 runs 18 balls, Sammy and Dwayne Bravo (27*) had the stage set for West Indies for snatching a match from Australia.

Both added 49 runs in the fifth wicket partnership to register their second victory in the tournament.

Sammy and Bravo managed to pull out 19 runs in the 19th over the match by Mitchell Starc.

Sammy maintained the momentum in the final over where the current champions needed 12 runs to win the match. Sammy hammered two over boundaries as the West Indies supporters and cricketers jumped in joy by seeing their side winning the match that looked impossible at that point.

Chris Gayle earlier remained the top scorer for the side with his 53 of 35 balls.

Starc took two wickets for Australia.

Earlier, Australia posted 178 for eight on the scoreboard.

Glenn Maxwell remained the top scorer for the former 50-over format world champions with his 45.

Samuel Badree, Marlon Samuels and Sunil Narine picked up two wickets each for West Indies.
