WT20: Steyn guides SA to victory
Spectators at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium witnessed a fascinating T20 match on Monday as South African batsman JP Duminy smashed a gutsy unbeaten knock of 86 runs and Dale Steyn bowled a sensational last over to help the side beat New Zealand by 2 runs here.
Posting 170 for six on the scorecard, South African bowlers restricted New Zealand to 168 for eight in 20 overs.
Kane Williamson (51) and Ross Taylor (62) played good knock to help New Zealand reach close to the target.
New Zealand got off to a good start with both the openers- Williamson and Martin Guptill (22) adding 57 runs on the first wicket partnership.
The rest of the batsmen failed to reach even the double score mark.
With New Zealand needing 7 runs in the last over, Steyn bowled a brilliant last over, where he picked two wickets of Luke Ronchi (5) and Nathan McCullum (0) and even affected Taylor's run out, to help South Africa register their first victory in the tournament.
Steyn finished his four overs quota by bagging four wickets and gave away 17 runs. Imran Tahir picked up two wickets.
Earlier, South Africa posted 170 for six on the scoreboard.
Duminy smashed 10 boundaries and three sixes in his 43-ball 86.
Hashim Amla played scored 41 runs for South Africa.
Corey Anderson and Tim Southee took two wickets each for New Zealand.
