New Delhi, Mar 21 : Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday met 2G scam accused Shahid Balwa at his office in New Delhi.
"Yes, Shahid Balwa met me to request for my intervention in some matter. But I clearly told him that I won't be able to help him if an enquiry is on against him," Shinde told reporters.
"Anyway, I am now leaving for my constituency. So I asked him to come back after Mar 29," he said.
Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi is accused of being the mastermind as the top official of the DMK run Kalaignar TV in receiving Rs 200 crore from the DB Group of Shahid Balwa in lie of 2G licence distributed by former DMK minister A Raja.
Touted to be the biggest corruption scandal of independent India, the 2G scam, allegedly masterminded by ex- telecom minister A Raja, pertains to a biased distribution of mobile airwaves and operating licenses, in lieu of kickbacks, to telcos that could have cost the treasury up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore in lost revenue, according to the government's auditor Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
Balwa is out on bail at present.
