Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets in the opening Group A Qualifying match of the World T20 here on Sunday.


After restricting Afghanistan to 72 all out, Bangladesh reached 78 runs by losing only one wicket with 48 balls to spare.

Anamul Haque remained the top scorer for Bangladesh with his unbeaten 44 off 33 balls. e smashed four boundaries and three sixes in his knock.

Haque smashed a six to reach the target in the last ball of the 12th over.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan remained unbeaten at 10.

Tamim Iqbal (21) and Haque gave Bagladesh a good start as they added 45 runs in the first wicket partnership.

Samiullah Shenwari was the only successful bowler for Afghanistan as he picked up the wicket of Iqbal.

Bangladesh earlier won the toss and elected to bowl against the Asian side.

Afghanistan were all out for 72 in 17.1 ovres.

Afghanistan batsmen struggled before the Bangladeshi spinners and Shakib Al Hasan picked up three wickets for his side,

Abdur Razzak took two wickets.

Gulbadin Naib remained the top scorer for Afghanistan with his 21.He hit three boundaries and six n his 22-ball knock.

Karim Sadiq (10) and Shafiqullah (16) were only the other two batsmen to reach the double figure mark.

Afghanistan had recently beat Bangladesh in a 50-over group stage match of the recently concluded Asia Cup.
