Veteran social activist Anna Hazare, who had skipped a joint rally with Mamata Banerjee here on Mar 12, on Friday said he supported the West Bengal Chief Minister but not her Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Praising Banerjee, Hazare told media: "I respect her... I feel she is the best Chief Minister in the country."

"I support Mamata. I do not support her party," Hazare said.

Hazare on Wednesday skipped a joint rally with Banerjee at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, where he was scheduled to share the stage with the TMC chief.

Hazare's aides have cited his ill-health as an excuse for skipping the rally.

Hitting out at Hazare at the rally, the TMC chief said she was here at his invitation and could have brought train loaded with people just to fill in the rally ground.

"This is not my rally but on Annaji's invitation I left all my work in Bengal to join this rally in Delhi. If I wanted, I could have got a train full of people to the rally. However, I did not want this," Banerjee said while addressing the rally alone.
