Pilgrims in Kashmir rush to register themselves for Haj pilgrimage
Pilgrims from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir are rushing to register themselves for the Haj pilgrimage of 2014 at the Haj House here.
Everyday, pilgrims from across the valley queue up to submit their forms with various essential documents to perform the once in life pilgrimage.
Executive officer of the Haj Committee F.A.Lone said they have seen a huge rush with 15,000 registrations so far.
"Since the time we have announced about the Haj pilgrimages this year, people have been very enthusiastic. There was a huge rush of pilgrims right from day one. You may have noticed pilgrims filling forms today as well. The registration began on February 01 and will continue till March 15.So far we have received over 15,000 applications from various districts. There is a great enthusiasm amongst the people," he said.
During the registration process, the committee checks all the essential documents like passport, photographs ,election card ,bank receipts, residential proof amongst a few which are then registered in the computer.
Pilgrims are desperate to be part of this holy journey.
"I have come here for the registration of Haj pilgrimage of 2014. I hope our form gets selected and approved this year. There is work going on at every counter and computerised registration is going on. The officers at the counters are very helpful to the people. We hope that everyone gets a chance to go to Haj. It is the wish of every Muslim to go on a Haj pilgrimage," said a pilgrim, Mohammad Yousuf Khan.
