Nandan Nilekani quits as UIDAI chief

New Delhi, Mar 13 : Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani who will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls for the ruling Congress, resigned as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Chairman on Thursday.

He said he will be serving people of the country by participating in politics.

"Mission accomplished! Delivered 60cr #Aadhaar numbers on time. Grateful to the PM for giving me an opportunity to serve the people of #India," he tweeted on Thursday.

"As one chapter ends, another 1 begins. I'll continue to serve the people of #India by participating in politics, the biggest lever of change," he said.

Nilekani formally joined the Congress party on Mar 9.

Even before joining, he had bagged the Lok Sabha polls ticket and would contest the election from Bangalore South against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Ananth Kumar.

His name featured in Congress's first list of candidates.
