New Delhi, Jan 18 : Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor who was found dead in a mysteriously condition in a five star hotel in Delhi, was cremated on Saturday evening at the Lodhi Road crematorium here.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate will on Saturday record the statement of Tharoor following the funeral.
The police said they will speak to the minister after taking into consideration his health condition. Tharoor was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) late Friday night after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness. He was discharged on Saturday.
The post-mortem examination of Sunanda Pushkar earlier on Saturday revealed it was a sudden, unnatural death.
The autopsy of Pushkar, who was found dead at Leela Palace Hotel in New Delhi on Friday, was carried out by a three-member panel of doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Saturday.
AIIMS forensic department head Sudhir Gupta said: "It is a sudden, unnatural death."
"Investigation is going on. Certain issues related to the injuries cannot be revealed. In medical cases number of injuries do not matter but if they led to fatality matters," he said.
Gupta said: "There were certain injuries, but right now I will not comment. I need time to give holistic and conclusive opinion."
"We will conclude our report and opinion in a couple of day," he added.
Pushkar was found dead at Leela Palace Hotel, fuelling speculations on the cause of her demise since the couple (Tharoor and she) was caught in a controversy over their "hacked" Twitter account and some tweets that involved a Pakistani woman journalist, Mehr Tarar, linked to Tharoor romantically.
Kashmir born Sunanda Pushkar was 52. She was a sales director in the Dubai-based TECOM Investments, and a co-owner of Rendezvous Sports World. She had last tweeted to an acquaintance that she was sick and if she died she would go from the world smiling.
Whether she committed suicide or died from her sickness- she said she had also got tuberculosis- was not immediately known.
Media reports had also suggested some marital discord between Pushkar and Tharoor but in one of her last interviews she said she loved her husband and would not leave him while slamming Mehr Tarar for stalking her husband and even called her an ISI agent.
Pushkar was found dead in room number 345 at around 8.30 pm after Tharoor returned to the five-star hotel attending the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session for the whole day.
Her body was discovered after the door of her room was broken open.
