Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Vice Chairman Dr. Vijaya Raghavan on Saturday denied that Sunanda Pushkar was suffering from any serious illness.

"We were not expecting anything like this. It comes as a shock to us," said Dr. Raghavan of Sunanda's death.

On being questioned whether Pushkar was suffering from any major illness, Dr. Raghavan said, "She was not suffering from any critical illness, but I would not like to discuss the details of the medical condition of a patient publicly, as we respect patient's confidentiality. After several medical investigations, we came to a conclusion and prescribed her some medications. After this, she was discharged."

"She went through check up by various departments and was very happy with her stay here. She was discharged with certain medications," he added.

Sunanda Pushkar was discovered dead by her husband Shashi Tharoor at the five-star Leela Hotel in South Delhi late on Friday night. Her body was found on a bed in suite 345 of the Leela Hotel.

Her death came within 48 hours of her going public about her husband's alleged affair with a Pakistani journalist, Mehr Tarar, raising suspicions of suicide, although no note has been found.

The couple are said to have moved out of the minister's official bungalow as it was being painted.

The police had initially suggested it was suicide. But late on Friday night, the officers were more guarded. Police sources said it could be a "natural or unnatural death". They said all angles were being probed: suicide, poisoning and death due to a sudden heart attack.

A forensic team is at the hotel. A magistrate has reportedly conducted a preliminary interrogation of Shashi Tharoor and his private secretary as per media reports.

The case is being probed under Section 176 of the Criminal Procedure Code as the marriage was less than seven years old. Delhi Police will also ask Twitter to give details of direct messages between Sunanda and Tarar.
