LS polls: Congress to unveil 2nd list
The ruling Congress will unveil its second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday.
The party's Central Election Committee met in the national capital earlier in the day to finalize the names of candidates.
"According to sources, the names of Union Minister Veerappa Moily and Former Railway Minister Pawan Bansal have been cleared and their candidature is likely to be announced later in the evening," reported CNN-IBN.
"There is no mention of Commonwealth Games scam accused Suresh Kalmadi and his wife in the list. The move can be seen as the party's attempt to change its image and to portray Rahul as an anti-corruption crusader," said the news channel.
The Congress on Mar 8 released the first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The party has named 194 candidates in the list.
Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi will contest from Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli constituency while her son and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi.
Union Ministers Salman Khurshid will contest the polls from Farrukhabad and Beni Prasad Verma from Gonda.
The party also fielded cricketer Mohammed Kaif (Phulpur, UP), actor Ravi Kisen (Jaunpur, UP), Odiya actors Aparajita Mohanty (Cuttak, Odisha) and Bijay Mohanty (Bhubaneshwar, Odisha), Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chief Nandan Nilekani (Bangalore South).
