BJP unlikely to decide on UP seats today
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is unlikely to take a decision on candidates for Uttar Pradesh seats on Thursday, said party sources.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Parliamentary Board is scheduled to meet here on Thursday to finalize candidates to be fielded from Bihar in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Tuesday visited his Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Joshi on Sunday dismissed reports of a rift over the selection of candidate for the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency and said a decision on the issue will be taken by the party.
"The decision is taken by the parliamentary board. The meeting will take place on March 13," Joshi told reporters.
"The decision that will taken by the party will neither dent the prestige of our Prime Ministerial candidate nor compromise the party's chances of victory," he said today.
Joshi said he will accept the decision which will be taken by the party.
Joshi made the remarks amid reports that he was unhappy that BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi might be fielded by the party from Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Party sources said Joshi may be moved to Kanpur.
Joshi is a sitting MP from Varanasi.
