The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) launched a special programme for Metro commuters, in which the inner working and internal operating systems of the Delhi Metro were explained to passengers.

The programme was launched by inviting a group of 25 women Metro commuters to undertake a tour of the Central Secretariat Metro station, where they were shown important components such as the control rooms and technical rooms etc. They were given a detailed explanation about various aspects of Metro functioning such as the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), CCTVs, public address systems and tunnel ventilation etc.

They were also taken inside a train and explained about the functioning of the Passenger Emergency Alarms (PEAs) installed inside the coaches.

The main purpose of the programme was to sensitize women commuters about the various facilities available inside Metro premises and trains for their own safety.

A fun quiz on Metro was also organized for them and the winners were given Smart Cards with value of Rs.200 each. All other participants were also given gifts and souvenirs.

DMRC's Director (Operations) Sharat Sharma graced the occasion and gave away the prizes. The group also included some reputed women achievers such as Income Tax Commissioner Ms. Sangita Gupta, and former athlete Sunita Godhara. Other participants included doctors, government servants, students etc.

This visit was the inaugural edition of DMRC's 'Know Your Metro' campaign as part of which Delhi Metro intends to invite a group of commuters once every month and apprise them about the functioning of the Metro system.
This initiative has been taken to ensure that Metro commuters remain aware about the minute details of Metro functioning including its emergency and disaster management mechanisms.

Every month, DMRC will invite participants for the 'Know Your Metro' campaign through its website. It will also send communications to government and private offices, schools, colleges, Non Governmental Organizations, Resident Welfare Associations etc requesting them to send their employees or members for this programme.
