Congress stands agrees with Venkaiah Naidu's remark on Modi
Backing senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu's remark against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi on Sunday re-launched his attack against Modi accusing him for being responsible for the 2002 Godhra riots which took place in Gujarat.
"Our oft repeated accusation that Modi was responsible for mass massacre of minorities in 2002 Gujarat riots stands vindicated with Naidu's candid admission. I would now like to ask BJP as to why did former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee sought Modi's resignation. How come Modi is elevated as a prime ministerial candidate of BJP even after Vajpayee who had earlier sought Modi to step down as Chief Minister finding him unfit to rule the state."
Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu cited the example of how Vajpayee wanted to see Modi resign as Gujarat Chief Minister after the 2002 riots, but he had to give in to the party's "collective decision" against the move. This is evidence that no individual leader is above the party, said Naidu, who was the BJP president at the time of the Gujarat riots.
