Lok Sabha polls: Election Commission to conduct camps

New Delhi, Mar 8 : The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday said it will be conducting special camps on Sunday at every polling booth across the country.

"Election Commissioner HS Brahma said that if an individual's name is not in the list then he/she can fill the required form to get registered," reported CNN-IBN.

The EC on Wednesday sounded the bugle for the world's largest democratic exercise by announcing the dates for a nine-phase parliamentary elections from Apr 7 to May 12 in which the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by the Congress will be challenged by a determined Hindu nationalist BJP that has named Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its PM candidate.

Voting will be held on Apr 7, Apr 9, Apr 10, Apr 12, Apr 17, Apr 24, Apr 30, May 7 and May 12 across a total of 543 parliamentary constituencies, said Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath here addressing media on the mammoth exercise staggered over a month.

"Counting will take place on 16.05.2014 (May 16, Friday) and is expected to be completed on the same day," said a press note issued by Deputy Election Commissioner R. Balakrishnan.

The term of 15th Lok Sabha expires on May 31.
