Reacting to the death of the navy officer on the yet to be commissioned Kolkata class destroyer, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prakash Javadekar on Friday said that Defence Minister A.K Antony should resign as he has not been taking any concrete steps on this issue and has not been acting responsibly.

"It is very unfortunate. Today navy is suffering and navy people don't have good artillery. Defence Minister A.K Antony should resign now as responsible work has not been done till now.

"It is absolutely shocking news. Today everyone is discussing about the defence ministry doing deals, yet another officer lost his life. The UPA has neglected this issue,"

"We have completely neglected the requirements of navy. A thorough investigation should be done on this. There is scam in each deal.

An Indian Navy officer was killed in an accident on the yet to be commissioned Kolkata class destroyer that is currently undergoing trials in Mumbai after a malfunction in its fire fighting system today.

The ship, currently designated Yard-701 by MDL Mazgaon Docks Limited that is constructing it was undergoing machinery trials in the Mumbai port trust when the incident took place.

The Indian Navy has been hit by a series of crippling accidents recently. Two weeks ago, two officers were killed in a fire aboard a Navy submarine INS Sindhuratna, which had been refitted and was being sea tested.
