Uttar Pradesh doctors call off strike

Lucknow, Mar 6 : Doctors in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday called off their strike after the intervention of the Allahabad High Court.

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday took suo motu congnizance of the agitation and ordered a probe into the incident behind the strike.

The High Court also ordered the transfer of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and Inspector General of Police (IG) of Kanpur.

The court requested the doctors to call off their strike.

The doctors in the state were striking for days to protest against an alleged police attack on a junior doctor.

The doctors demanded suspension of Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yasaswi Yadav.

The striking doctors got support from their colleagues at several government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh.

On Feb 28, a clash broke out between supporters of Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki and junior doctors at a medical college in Kanpur.

The police allegedly lathicharged junior doctors and arrested 36 of them.
