Politicians, celebs mourn Sunanda demise
Indian politicians and celebrities on Friday mourned the death of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor 's wife Sunanda Pushkar.
Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at Leela Palace Hotel in New Delhi on Friday, fuelling speculations on the cause of her demise since the couple was caught in a controversy over their "hacked" Twitter account and some tweets that involved a Pakistani woman journalist linked to Tharoor romantically.
Kashmir born Sunanda Pushkar was 52. She was a sales director in the Dubai-based TECOM Investments, and a co-owner of Rendezvous Sports World.
According to reports, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already spoken to Shashi Tharoor.
Reacting to Sunanda Pushkar's death, Union Minister for Communications & Information Technology Kapil Sibal tweeted: "Deeply shocked to hear about Sunanda. My heartfelt condolences to my friend and colleague Shashi Tharoor, and their family."
Mourning Pushkar's demise, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: "Terrible terrible news coming in about Sunanda Tharoor."
Senior BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman said: "Shocked to hear about Sunanda Pushkar's passing. Her individuality was striking. Condolences to the family."
BJP leader Anurag Thakur posted on Twitter: "Sunanda may your soul rest in peace. May god give @ShashiTharoor strength through this difficult time. God Bless. RIP."
Apart from politicians, people from different walks of life also posted their reaction over the sudden death of Sunanda Pushkar.
Actor Anupam Kher tweeted:"I am Stunned to know about Sunanda Pushkar's sudden death. She was bright, forthright, loving & full of life. Really sad & tragic.Sunanda Pushkar lived life on her terms. She was larger than life. Had a great sense of humour. Shocking. Feel bad for her family & her son."
Filmmaker Karan Johar said: "Absolutely Shocked to hear about Sunanda!!!....tragic to say the least."
Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty said: "Deeply saddened and shocked by the news of Sunandas demise. Loved her for her joie d'vivre and her positivity..May her soul rest in peace:("
Businessman and Shilpa's husband Raj Kundra tweeted: "Rip #SunandaPushkar saddened by the untimely death. She was a good lady and didn't deserve to go like this. God bless her soul."
Actress Soha Ali Khan posted: "Shocked to hear about Sunanda She was so full of life and energy, she lit up the room I can't believe it My deepest condolences to her family."
Actress Dia Mirza said: "RIP #SunandaPushkar. Deeply shocked and saddened. Such a lively, friendly and warm person. Heartfelt condolences @ShashiTharoor."
Whether she committed suicide or died from her sickness- she said she had also got tuberculosis- was not immediately known.
Media reports had also suggested some marital discord between Sunanda and Shashi Tharoor but in one of her last interviews she said she loved her husband and would not leave him while slamming the Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar for stalking her husband and even called her an ISI agent.
Pushkar was found dead in room number 345 at around 830 pm after Shashi Tharoor returned to the five-star hotel attending the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session for the whole day.
Her body was discovered after the door of her room was broken open.
Delhi Police PRO Rajan Bhagat said family members of Sunanda Pushkar had informed the police and informed that whatever may be the cause of death, any such death within seven years of marriage has to be investigated by the sub-divisional magistrate. as per law.
Shashi Tharoor's personal secretary Abhinab Kumar said the couple were staying in the hotel since Thursday.
"She was in this hotel since yesterday and she was not well. They (Sunanda and Shashi Tharoor) were in hotel because some some painting going on at home," Abhinab Kumar told reporters here.
"She was lying in bed wearing her clothes normally," he said. Abhinab Kumar said the cause of her death is still not known.
The police and the forensic team have reached the spot.
Abhinab Kumar said Pushkar's body will be sent for post-mortem soon.
"The cause and the time of her death can be explained by police," he said.
Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor had married in August 2010 amid a raging Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise controversy. She had to give up a stake in the Kochi IPL Team estimated at Rs 70 crore, when allegations of corruption surfaced that year.
It was the third marriage for both of them.
Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor on Thursday issued a press statement where they had clarified their position on the Twitter account hacking controversy and the embroilment of a woman Pakistani columnist who Sunanda had accused of stalking her husband.
Pushkar on the same day had said both the Twitter accounts of her and her husband were hacked and called Pakistani columnist Mehr Tarar, to whom some romantic tweets reached from Tharoor's "hacked" account, as a woman who stalked Tharoor.
