Jammu and Kashmir: Army, militants exchange gun fire

By Saleem Iqbal Qadri, Srinagar, Mar 1 : Security forces and militants were engaged in a brief encounter in Lolab forests in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

According to the reports, the forces, during their normal patrolling in the Lolab forests, received a tip off about the presence of militants in the upper reaches of Darpora area.

After a massive search operation was launched by security forces, militants fired upon them which resulted in a brief fight.

There were reportedly 2-3 militants.

After the incident, the militants went into hiding.

A senior police officer stationed in the district said that the security forces had a brief encounter with the militants in the forests of Lolab and it hardly lasted for 3 to 4 minutes.

A massive man hunt has been jointly launched by the local police, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Army, reports said.

Seven militants were killed during a gun battle between forces and militants on Feb 24.
