Jammu and Kashmir: Army jawan kills 5 colleagues
An Indian Army soldier on Thursday committed suicide after killing five of his colleagues and injuring another at an army camp in Ganderbal district of North Kashmir, officials said.
According to reports, Sepoy Ranveer of 13 Rashtriya Rifles posted at the Safapora camp in Mansbal, fired indiscriminately around 2 am on Thursday after a heated argument with his colleagues.
According to sources: "The heated exchange of words took an bloody turn as Ranveer opened fire on his colleagues killing five soldiers on the spot and injuring another. The soldier later shot himself dead."
The slain soldiers have been identified as Amit Kumar of 12 Kumaon, Lance Naik Tabruq Ansari of 278 Field Regiment, Sepoy Surinder Singh of 2 Kumaon, Rifleman M R Ajinath of 36 Medical Regiment and Rifle Man Rajput Joni of 278 Field Regiment.
Defence spokesman Lt. Col N N Joshi told IBNS: "We are collecting details of the incident. We will be able to speak more on the incident after getting the details."
He further said: "We have ordered a court of inquiry into this incident. A colonel has been nominated to head the inquiry panel and submit a report."
The chronology said that several Army personnel, including top officers, have been killed by their own colleagues in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 18 years.
