Jayalalithaa unveils poll manifesto
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday unveiled her party manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Among many pledges, Jayalalithaa promised to raise the income tax exemption limit to Rs 5 lakh, change the mechanism for petrol and diesel pricing and work to make sure India gets a permanent seat in the Security Council.
"We have spelt out many policies and promises to implement many schemes and aims not only for the development of Tamil Nadu but also for the progress of the entire nation," Jayalalithaa told reporters.
Pertinently, ahead of her 66th birthday on Monday, Jayalalithaa issued a statement on Friday where she hinted at her prime ministerial aspirations.
"I have a vision for India in which Tamil Nadu will play a key role, a vision of a resurgent India, a nation with an inclusive society and open markets, a nation of enterprise and creativity driven by knowledge and shaped by family values," said Jayalalithaa in a statement.
"A nation of growth with equity, a nation with peace, stability and development, a modern, secular and prosperous India. I want to assure you all that this day is not far," she said.
