The blasts occurred just a day before Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's scheduled visit to Assam.

The two blasts occurred at a busy market in Kamrup district on Monday.

The incident took place at Gasbari market near in Kamrup district, bordering area of Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), where suspected miscreants lobbed two grenades.

"Suspected militants had lobbed two grenades at the market targeting common people in which eight people were injured," a top police official said.

The injured people were rushed to nearest hospitals and Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

Top police and Army officials have rushed to the area and took stock of the situation and launched operation against the suspected militants.

Ahead of Gandhi's visit, the Assam Police have tightened security in the state.
