Lucknow, Jan 14 : Victims of Shamli and Muzaffarnagar riots on Tuesday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
According to reports, the victims demanded Rs 12 lakh compensation for families of almost 40 people who are still missing and have presumably died.
Akhilesh and Mulayam have reportedly said they will soon look into the matter.
A Muzaffarnagar riots victim has filed a contempt petition against Mulayam in the Supreme Court.
Yadav had sparked a controversy by saying that the Muzaffarnagar riots victims are Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters.
"The people in the camps should not be called victims. They are conspirators and supporters of Congress and BJP," Yadav had said.
