Social activist Anna Hazare, who met Mamata Banerjee in New Delhi on Tuesday, said the country needs people like the West Bengal Chief Minister in politics.

"The country will change one day. We need people like her (Banerjee) in politics," Anna told reporters after the meeting.

Banerjee was seen touching Anna's feet to show her respect to the anti-corruption crusader.

Anna is all set to campaign for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Yes....Anna Hazare is going to campaign for Mamata Banerjee's @AITCofficial in 2014.They will meet in Delhi later in Feb and announce plans," TMC MP Derek O'Brien earlier tweeted.

Hazare had earlier praised the simplicity of Banerjee, while taking a jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking at The Indian Express Idea Exchange event, Hazare said his one-time lieutenant Arvind Kejriwal had not lived up to his expectations after becoming the Delhi Chief Minister.

Taking a jibe at Kejriwal, he said, "It is the thought that matters. I have always said, since Arvind was with me, that he believes in sacrifice and has a good character. But he is in a party now. Somewhere our paths are different. He has strength, and so does Mamata. She's a Chief Minister, but she still lives in her father's small house. She did not take a government bungalow or car. She wears hawai chappalsand a simple sari, and travels 8-10 kilometres inside villages. These kind of people can make a difference to the country."

The Gandhian said that Banerjee has the potential to become the Prime Minister of India.

He said that he has sent a 17-points economic agenda to every political party and only Banerjee has sent a reply to it.
