Intensifying its attack on the 49-day Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said the AAP never really intended to eradicate corruption as it was full of corrupt members.

"The whole AAP regime was based on lies. Kejriwal has been protecting his tainted ministers. The AAP has received huge funds from foreign countries but never talks about it," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

"You are not speaking on such issues and expect to question other parties. The AAP is running a shop in the name of honesty and corruption. Their circus has been exposed now," he added.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said that people of Delhi should be glad that Kejriwal resigned soon; as the system would have been paralyzed otherwise.

"Within 50 days, two or three of their ministers, legislators faced corruption allegation. Had they stayed longer, more corruption would have been exposed. People of Delhi are glad that they got rid of Kejriwal who always seemed in hurry," he said.

Earlier on Saturday, Goel had announced that his party would stage a sit down protest over what it termed the Aam Aadmi Party's "betrayal of the people of Delhi."

Addressing media here after a meeting of the Delhi unit of the BJP yesterday, Goel said Kejriwal had failed to fulfill his promises on water, power and women safety.

"We have decided to sit on Dharna at Jantar Mantar on 18th February to protest the Aam Aadmi Party's betrayal to Delhi people. We are going to expose AAP's governance failure, their unfulfilled promises before the public. They failed to fulfill their promises of cheaper water and electricity, regularization of contractual labor and relief to auto-drivers," he had said.
