BSF recovers 1kg gold bar

Kolkata, Feb 15 : The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from the 40 battalion, of Border Outpost (BOP) Haridaspur, acting on a specific input on Saturday seized 1 gold bar weighing approximately 1 kg and worth Rs. 31 lacs, here.
One Indian national, who is a resident of Petrapole, Bangaon namely Azharudiin Sheikh was also apprehended by the BSF along with smuggled the gold bar.
According to sources, on Saturday the BSF personnel received specific input regarding smuggling of gold from ICP Petrapole.
A special operation was planned to nab the smuggler along with the smuggled gold.
At about 1045 hrs, the BSF troops intercepted Azharuddin Sheikh, who was coming on a CBZ Motorcycle (Reg. No-WB 26AC-6393) from Petrapole to Bangaon.
Azaharuddin Sheikh tried to run away from the spot but due to the alertness of BSF troops, he failed to do so.
On being searched, one gold bar was recovered from his possession.
The seized gold bar weighed approximately 1 kg and valued worth Rs 30 lacs in market.
The apprehended person was handed over to customs Petrapole for further investigation.
Earlier, the BSF has seized gold worth 2.1 crore and apprehended four smugglers in 2014, under command of Mukund Jha, officiating Commandant of the unit.
BSF had seized gold worth 3.45 crores and apprehended 7 smugglers in 2014 from the Kolkata sector.
