Deceased Arunachal student's family meets Rahul Gandhi
Family of deceased Arunachal student Nido Taniam, who was beaten up mercilessly at a busy market in New Delhi, met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday and pressed their demand for action against Delhi police.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited postmortem report of the victim was released on Monday which stated that Taniam died of injuries inflicted upon the head and face by a blunt object.
Father of the victim, who is a Congress leader in Arunachal Pradesh, said that the policemen in Delhi and others involved in his son's death should be punished.
"First of all, we have requested him (Rahul Gandhi) to punish those people who were involved in killing my son. Number one is the Delhi cops and secondly, those culprits," he said.
Mother of the victim, Marina Nido, said that her son's death was due to the negligence on part of the police.
"It's total discrimination and it's negligence on the part of police and also I placed some point for anti-racial discrimination act. But we need a mass campaign. If they make the law also, we Indians, our mindset is not clear, it is not going to change anything," she said.
Taniam was allegedly beaten to death at Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi on January 29 as he got into a brawl with local shopkeepers while reacting to a verbal racial slur and taunts on his hair colour.
He was studying in Jalandhar and had travelled to Delhi for a holiday.
