Country does not work through 'mohalla politics': Somnath Chatterjee
Taking a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Monday said the country cannot and won't be able to work through 'mohalla politics' and added that such initiatives should be limited to a local area only.
"It is up to the people of Delhi to decide. But I think, the country does not work through 'mohalla politics'. Mohalla politics is for mohalla's only," he said in response to Kejriwal's recent threat that he will resign from the CM's chair if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not passed.
"Today, we find confrontation everywhere. There is an atitude of cooperation anywhere. Everybody wants to show that he or she is better than the others. This is not the right approach. After all, we are here for the country," he added.
He further said the country is not in contemplation of anybody.
Kejriwal had on Sunday said that he will resign from the Chief Ministership of Delhi if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not passed in the Delhi Assembly.
"If the bill is not passed then I have no wish to continue as the chief minister. I can sacrifice the chair of a chief minister 100 times to wipe out corruption from this country. To establish Swaraj in the country I can sacrifice the chair 1000 times. I haven't come here to become a chief minister; I have come here to clean corruption from this country," Kejriwal had said.
