Police arrest hardcore Maoist

Rourkela, Sep 25 : Police have arrested a hardcore Maoist from Jharbeda under Bisra Police station and seized one mauser, five rounds of 32 live ammunition, ten rounds of 303 live ammunition from his possession.

Superintendent of Police Himansu Lal today told newspersons here that Bisra police had arrested Ram alias Dadhi Mahato (36), an armed cadre of CPI (Maoist) yesterday.

Mahato, who hails from Simarta village under Manoharpur police station of West Singhbhum district, was working as an 'area commander' of Digha-Bhalulata area on Orissa-Jharkhand border after Mohammed Muslim was killed in a police encounter.

The SP said on February 11 last around 40 armed Maoists including Ram, led by Anmul Hembram kidnapped, kidnapped one Kanduri Lohar (28) and her four year old son Siba from the Mahipani puja ground and killed both of them.

In this connection, a case was registered against head of Chhotnagar division of the outfit Anmul Hembram alias Samarjee, Ram Mahato, Suleman, Gunga Mahanto, Jhonson, Madhu Tarkod, Malkhan and others.

Police arrested Ram yesterday while investigating the murder case.

Mr Lal said Ram was also involved in five other criminal cases of rioting, armed with deadly weapons, attempt to murder, conspiracy, unlawful assembly, 27 Arms Act.

Out of the five cases, while three cases were in Bisra Police station, one was in Bandhamunda police station and another at the Rourkela GRPS, he added. (UNI -Posted on / )
