SW monsoon advances into Northern region; rain claims 1 life in Raj
One person died in rain-related incident in Rajasthan.
Rains continued to lash number of places in Rajasthan, including Chhabra, Anta, Baran, Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi, and Jaipur.
According to reports, a man trying to cross the Chambal river along Garhi Zafar Ghat in Dholpur district was swept away in the strong current yesterday. Earlier, five people died in Baran and one each in Jaipur and Kota on Thursday.
The reports said Chambal was in spate following heavy downpour in Kota division during last two days. The river was flowing 3 meters above the danger mark in Dholpur last evening.
The water level has touched 132.3 mt, approximately 3 Mt above the danger mark (129.79 Mt) last evening.
According to Meteorology Office sources, Chhabra in Baran district received 20 cm rainfall followed by Anta (16cm), Naseerabad (7.6 cm), Jhalawar (7.3 cm) and Ajmer (7.1 cm).
The south-west Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of west Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, in remaining parts of Haryana and Punjab.
In the regions where the Monsoon is yet to set in, day temperatures were appreciably above normal in some parts of west Rajasthan and were above normal in some parts of Kutch.
They were below normal in some parts of Punjab and in remaining parts of west Rajasthan and Kutch. While, they were normal over the rest of the region.
Heavy to very heavy rain have occurred at most places in Kerala Punjab and Orissa.
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and coastal Karnataka. They have occurred at a few places in Assam, Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
They have also occurred at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, west Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and north interior Karnataka.
Dry weather prevailed over Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In the first rain-related tragedy with the onset of monsoon season in Uttarakhand, two shepherds were feared dead and at least six hundred goats and sheep perished in a cloudburst in the hills above Hadwadi village in Mori Tehsil of Uttarkashi district in the state.
According to Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre (DMMC) two shepherds had taken a herd of around 700 sheep and goats for grazing on the hills near their village Hadwadi.
Suddenly, a cloudburst occurred around noon-time and the two men, along with the livestock were swept and feared drowned and buried in the debris brought down by sudden gush of large amount of water.
The Met department in Uttarakhand declared that the monsoon had arrived in the hill state though at present it was having a weak current.
The capital city and many areas in plains and hills have been experiencing spurts of rain and thunder showers for almost a week now. (UNI -Posted on / )
