UPA diverting people's attention

Bangalore, Jan 8 : While poor continue to suffer under due to wrong policies of the UPA government, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Himister P Chidambaram were diverting their attention by claiming that the country was progressing on par with the US, CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yachuri today said.

Speaking at the 20th state-level conference of the party at Chikballapur, about 45 km from here, he said two leaders were responsible for the country losing thousands of crores of rupees in way of 2G scam and various other scams.

''The Congress-led government has failed on all fronts. It has failed recover the market value of the spectrum from the licencees'' he said.

He also questioned the UPA government as to why it was not prepared to release funds for the welfare of the needy and common people.

The policies pursued by the UPA government at the centre has resulted in widening the rich and poor divide to unprecedented levels.

''Until and unless the income of the common man is increased, there is no chance of any development in the country,'' he said.

Alleging BJP for its double standards, Yechury said the BJP was fighting for a strong Lokpal Bill, but in Karnataka it was reluctant to appoint Lokayukta.

''This clearly shows that the BJP is not keen to fight against corruption while its leaders were enacting a drama on the floor of the Parliament,'' he added.

He also said in Karnataka the BJP has failed to initiate any development programmes as it is embroiled in various scams including the illegal mining scam.

State Secretary V J K Nair, state secretary member G V Sree Rama Reddy and others also addressed the meeting. (UNI)
