Hubli, Karnataka, Jan 2 : Farmers in North Karnataka today staged protest in Hubli and Gadag APMC markets when they suspected malpractice during the grading of the onion.
Thousands of farmers who had brought their onion produce to the APMC market for sale were disappointed when most of their produce was rejected under the pretext of grading.
Farmer leader Vinod Kuri and many others said that they faced a lot of discrimination in selection of onion for purchase under support price announced by State Government.
He alleged that officials were seeking bribes from farmers and whoever did not pay it, their onion was rejected as sub standard.
Even the good quality onion was found rejected by the officials stating that they did not come under grade specified by the Government, he alleged. (UNI)
