Miniature model added at Railway Museum

Mysore, Dec 29 : The City of Palaces which has a number of tourist spots has added one more attraction with a miniature model housed at Railway Museum.

Now the tourists visiting the city would be able to see a miniature model of the tourist spots in and around Mysore, connected by rail. This project by the Railways is the first-of-its-kind in the country.

Senior South Western Railway (SWR) Divisional Commercial Manager Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu told that the model measuring 25ftx10ft will be housed in the Heritage Gallery at the City Railway Station.

The novel project is the brainchild of SWR, Mysore Division, which has awarded the work to the engineers and architects of Sriram Associates based in city.

He said the model built at the cost of Rs 20 lakh took more than six months to complete. He said Rs 14 lakh was obtained through sponsors from Mineral Intel Enterprises, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), Hunsur Plywood, Apollo Paint-Bangalore, Siddhartha Group of Hotels and Ranga Rao and Sons.

Mr Sadhu said rail transport system, railway engine, tracks, signals, tunnels, bridges, roads, buildings, streams, trees and hills were created in the model to give the visitors a realistic look of Mysore and its surrounding places of tourist interest. Some of the prominent places depicted in the model are KRS dam, Chamundi Hill, K R Circle, Clock Tower, Zoo, St Philomena's Church, Lalitha Mahal Palace, Mysore Railway Station, and Mysore Palace which will be illuminated at night. The picturesque Kodagu region is also included, he added.

Stating that the miniature railway layout will be lit with LED bulbs, he said most of the materials for the project were imported from abroad. Movement of trains and lights will be activated through sensors installed in the model. It is still not decided about charging entry fee to the Heritage Gallery where the model is housed, he added.
