Uttarakhand gears up for Rahul Gandhi's election rally

Dehradun, Dec 23 : Asserting that the people of Uttarakhand are displeased with the management of the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime, Congress leaders here on Friday said the people of the state were looking at AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to bring an end to their worries.

Rahul is all set to formally launch the election campaign of the Congress Party at a rally to be held at the historic parade ground here today.

Talking about the rally, Congress leader Suryakant Tasmana said Rahul Gandhi would be able to strike a chord with the people of Dehradun, as he completed his schooling in this city.

"This will be a historic rally and it will be the source of change in Uttarakhand. The people of the state are displeased with the mismanagement of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government for almost five years and are looking at the Congress party for hope. This rally will sound the bugle horn for that change and will lead the Congress''s charge in the state assembly elections in February next year. Rahul Gandhi is coming here to flag off that charge," said Tasmana.

"Rahul Gandhi gathers attraction in Dehradun because his relation with the people of the state is natural as he spent his childhood here, completing his schooling from Doon school. And that''s why people of Dehradun love him, people of Uttarakhand love him," he added.

Meanwhile, another Congress leader Yashpal Arya echoing similar sentiments said the party workers and supporters were thrilled about Rahul Gandhi''s visit, as they are hopeful that he would herald an era of change in Uttarakhand.

"This is a new beginning. And I believe that this rally will be a historic one and from through this rally the Congress party is beginning its election campaign in the state and the kind of support I see, the level of excitement in supporters and party workers, this is an indication of the future," said Arya.

"This rally is the start of the campaign for the 2012 state elections and will form the base for the new future of the Uttarakhand state and will give it a new direction," said another regional Congress leader," he added. (ANI -Posted on / )
