It is said that it was Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane in Washington came up with the idea of celebrating 'Father's Day in 1909.
She received support from the local religious leaders and the pagers of history says that it was June 19, 1910 when the first 'Fathers Day was celebrated.
Observance of the third Sunday of June as the 'Father's Day' was decreed by law in 1972, making the celebration of a day dedicated to the 'fathers' a mandatory one.

"I feel that it is again a business gimmick like all other days which we celebrate. I love my father and will try to gift him everyday, a single day for me is not so important. Every day in the year is a fatehr's day for me," Tumita Saha, a house wife from Kolkata said.
"In our busy life we tend to forget our parents these days.We meet them every day but hardly we can spend a time together. I support and love celebrating the occasion," Arijit Banerjee, a young IT professional from Patna said.
