As someone who visited Kishtwar last year, this is devastating news. The terrain is already challenging and cloudbursts make it worse. Relief operations must prioritize women, children and elderly first.

Why are we always reactive instead of being proactive? Every year same story - cloudburst, casualties, then rescue. Need permanent solutions like better drainage and landslide prevention measures in vulnerable areas.

The Machail Yatra route is already risky. Authorities should consider postponing the pilgrimage temporarily until the area is secured. Safety first!

Climate change is making these extreme weather events worse. India needs to lead in both adaptation and mitigation strategies. Thoughts with the affected families.
