Tirana, August 16

The UAE rescue team continues, for the fifth consecutive day, its efforts to extinguish forest fires raging in several areas of Albania, in coordination with local authorities.

The team is intensifying its field operations, which come under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, using the latest equipment to monitor fire sites, ensure control, and prevent their recurrence, despite the challenges posed by high temperatures and difficult terrain.

The UAE began its firefighting operations last Monday, with the arrival of joint aircraft and the specialised team. Over the past few days, the team has carried out 15 aerial sorties, deploying more than 600,000 kilograms of water across various areas affected by the fires.

These efforts have contributed to limiting the spread of the fires and preventing them from reaching populated areas.

While this is commendable, I wonder why we don't see similar urgency when forest fires happen in India. Our firefighters risk their lives with basic equipment while foreign teams get all the latest tech.

UAE showing true leadership in global crisis response. This reminds me of how India helped during Nepal earthquake. International cooperation is the need of the hour with climate change worsening natural disasters.

600,000 kg of water deployed! That's massive. But I hope they're also working on long-term solutions with Albania to prevent future fires. Prevention is better than cure, no?

Respect to the firefighters battling these blazes in difficult terrain. Meanwhile in India, we need to learn from this - our forest management systems need urgent upgrades before monsoon season begins.

Working in Albania for 2 years now. The fires this summer have been devastating. Grateful for international help from UAE and others. Climate change is making these disasters more frequent everywhere.
