New Delhi, June 23: Prime Minister's Office on Monday shared an article by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on India's global outreach following Operation Sindoor in which he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "energy, dynamism and willingness to engage remains a prime asset for India on the global stage, but deserves greater backing".

Soft power diplomacy key in shaping international support

"Lok Sabha MP and former Union Minister Dr. @shashitharoor writes- Lessons from Operation Sindoor's global outreach," PMO said in a post on X.

In his article in The Hindu newspaper, Tharoor said that aftermath of the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, and India's resolute response through "Operation Sindoor", presented a critical juncture for the nation's foreign policy.

"While the immediate military action was decisive, the subsequent diplomatic outreach was equally, if not more, vital in shaping global perceptions and consolidating international support," he said.

Tharoor led an all-party parliamentary delegation to Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil and the United States and said the visit offered him a unique vantage point to reflect on the lessons learned from this intensive period of public diplomacy.

He said the visits by all-party delegations underscored that when it comes to national security and confronting terrorism, India speaks with one voice.

He said while the all-party delegations provided clarity on 'Operation Sindoor', a parallel, and equally crucial, aspect of the outreach was to underscore Pakistan's continued links to terrorism.

The former Union Minister said that beyond the immediate crisis management, the tour served as a powerful reminder of the enduring relevance of soft power diplomacy.

He also lauded the name 'Operation Sindoor'

"The very name "Operation Sindoor" proved evocative, its cultural resonance helping to explain the depth of the outrage and the resolve it represented. From the widespread embrace of yoga to the global appeal of Bollywood, India's traditions offer a unique pathway to connecting with diverse audiences...," he said.

Congress leaders have in the past disagreed with some of Tharoor's views. Party leader Udit Raj had earlier termed him a "super spokesperson" of the BJP. Party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had said what Thaoor had spoken on surgical strikes was factually incorrect.

Responding to queries, Tharoor had said last week that he had a difference of opinion with some in the party leadership but added that Congress, its values, and its workers are dear to him.

Tharoor ji makes valid points about India's soft power diplomacy. The name 'Operation Sindoor' was indeed brilliant - it connects our military action with cultural symbolism that resonates globally. More such creative thinking needed in foreign policy! 🇮🇳

While I appreciate Tharoor's balanced view, I wish Congress leaders would stop their internal bickering. When it comes to national security, we must present a united front. The all-party delegation was a good initiative - more such bipartisan efforts needed.

Operation Sindoor showed the world India won't tolerate terrorism anymore. But why is Tharoor praising Modi now? Is this genuine or political positioning? 🤔 Either way, good that Pakistan's terror links are being exposed globally.

As someone from Kashmir, I appreciate the strong response to Pahalgam attack. But military action alone isn't enough - we need sustained diplomatic pressure on Pakistan. Tharoor's delegation to Latin America was innovative thinking!

Tharoor sahab always speaks with such nuance. Whether you agree with him or not, his intellectual depth is admirable. Hope more politicians learn to appreciate good ideas regardless of party lines. #NationFirst

The article makes sense but I'm concerned about Congress leaders attacking Tharoor. If we want strong foreign policy, we need to allow experts to speak without party politics interfering. Soft power is India's biggest weapon against Pakistan's propaganda.
