After record number of road fatalities, Israel to hold national emergency conference

Israel's National Road Safety Authority plans emergency conference to address 439 road fatalities, highest in two decades

"Road accidents are a serious national problem that requires joint, broad-based and immediate action - Ministry of Transport"

Tel Aviv, June 6

The year 2024 ended with a record of 439 fatalities in road accidents - the highest number in the last twenty years. In light of the serious situation, Israel's National Road Safety Authority will hold a national emergency conference, led by the Ministry of Transportation and in cooperation with all professional bodies, with the aim of formulating immediate steps to curb the rising trend.

The goal of the conference is to bring together all the key actors working in the field, and to constitute a turning point in the national fight against road fatalities. During the conference, operational steps will be presented to promote a comprehensive national plan to improve road safety and reduce the number of deaths and injuries.

The Ministry of Transport and Road Safety called the setting of a new road fatalities record a "disturbing statistic that indicates a continuing upward trend in fatal accidents on Israeli roads.

Road accidents are a serious national problem that affects the entire public - Jews and Arabs, religious and secular, men and women - and requires joint, broad-based and immediate action."

This is really concerning. India also faces similar road safety challenges. Maybe our transport ministry should take notes from Israel's approach. Our highways see so many accidents due to reckless driving and poor infrastructure. Stay safe everyone! 🙏

While the numbers are tragic, it's good to see Israel taking proactive steps. In India, we often wait for disasters to happen before acting. Road safety should be a priority for all governments - lives are more important than political differences.

The mention of this affecting all communities equally is important. In our country too, road accidents don't discriminate. We need better enforcement of traffic rules - too many people think helmets and seatbelts are optional. Safety first!

I appreciate Israel's transparency in sharing these grim statistics. Many countries would try to hide such numbers. Hope their conference leads to concrete solutions that other nations can learn from. Road safety is a global challenge that needs global cooperation.

While the initiative is good, I wonder if conferences alone can solve this. We need stricter penalties and better road engineering. In Delhi, the same accident spots keep claiming lives year after year. Action matters more than meetings.

Every life lost is someone's loved one. 😢 This makes me think of our own Bharat NCAP vehicle safety program. We're making progress, but still have a long way to go. Maybe Indian and Israeli experts could collaborate on safety solutions?
