BJP govt to continue focus on indigenous communities: Assam Minister​

Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah says BJP-led government will continue focus on indigenous communities, citing electoral success and public confidence.

Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Friday said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government would continue to focus on the development of indigenous communities and backward regions of the state, asserting that the National Democratic Alliance's electoral success reflected growing public confidence in its governance model.​

Speaking to reporters, Baruah said the people of Assam had strongly endorsed the government's development agenda, particularly its efforts to strengthen infrastructure, welfare schemes and inclusive growth across different communities and regions.​

"The people of Assam have developed confidence that the present government is committed to the overall development of the state and its indigenous communities. This support has been reflected in the election results," he said.​

The minister stated that the government remained committed to addressing the concerns of various indigenous groups, including Rabha, Bodo and other ethnic communities living in different parts of Assam.​

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party government had consistently worked to resolve long-standing issues affecting indigenous populations and to ensure balanced development in remote and backward areas.​

He highlighted the government's welfare initiatives and said several schemes launched over the past few years had directly benefited the people.​

Referring to the Orunodoi scheme, he said the government had significantly expanded its outreach.​

"Last year, around 1.5 lakh beneficiaries received support under this cash benefit transfer scheme. This year, the government aims to further widen the coverage of welfare schemes so that more people can benefit," he added.​

The minister also underlined the importance of safeguarding the rights and identity of indigenous communities while ensuring economic progress and better connectivity in rural and border areas.​

According to him, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led administration has adopted a policy of engaging directly with communities and stakeholders in order to resolve issues through discussion and consensus.​

"After the election victory, we have continued holding discussions with people from different communities and regions. We are interacting with local organisations and community representatives to understand their concerns and take necessary steps," he said.​

The minister further said the government would continue its efforts to ensure peace, social harmony, and inclusive development across Assam, adding that the administration was determined to bring every section of society along on the state's growth journey.​

"Balanced development" is a great slogan, but we need to see actual results on the ground. My relatives in the Barak Valley still struggle with basic amenities. Their welfare schemes sound good on paper. 🤔

The Orunodoi scheme has been a lifesaver for my mother who lives in Dibrugarh. Earlier she used to worry about monthly expenses, now she gets some support. But why can't they expand it faster? Too many poor families are still left out.

Development is important, but indigenous communities also need protection from illegal immigration and land grabbing. The government must ensure their identity isn't eroded while pushing economic growth. Both can be done if there's willpower. 🚩
