No intent behind it...: Virat Kohli responds to online speculation over 'mistaken' Instagram like

Virat Kohli addresses speculation after mistakenly liking an Avneet Kaur fan post, attributing it to Instagram's algorithm.

"There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. – Virat Kohli"

Mumbai, May 2

Star batter Virat Kohli found himself at the centre of online chatter after several users noticed that his verified Instagram account had liked a post from a fan page dedicated to actress Avneet Kaur.

Kohli has now taken to his Instagram Story to share a short note to clear the air. In the post, the star batter, without naming anyone, stated that the like seemed to be a mistake caused by the "app's algorithm" while he was "clearing his feed."

"I'd like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding," read his Instagram Story.

Virat is currently playing in IPL 2025. During the ongoing season, the right-handed batter is sitting in third place among the highest run-scorers, with 443 runs in 10 innings at an average of 63.28, a strike rate of almost 139, and six fifties, with a best score of 73*.

His side is in second place on the table with seven wins and three losses, and they will host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home on Saturday. CSK was the first team to be knocked out of the playoff race this week.

Seriously people, this is what we're discussing? Virat is giving his 100% on field and all some fans care about is an accidental Instagram like? Let's focus on his amazing performance this IPL season instead! 🔥

The way social media blows up small things is ridiculous. Even if he did like it intentionally, so what? He's human after all. We need to stop treating celebrities like gods who can't make normal human choices.

This shows how much pressure celebrities are under these days. Virat had to issue a clarification for a simple Instagram like! Imagine having to explain every small action you take. Too much scrutiny isn't good for anyone's mental health.

While I agree this is a non-issue, I wish Virat wouldn't feel the need to respond to every small rumor. By addressing it, he's giving importance to something that should have been ignored. Star players should rise above such petty things.

The real story here is Virat's amazing form this IPL season! 443 runs at 63 average - these are King Kohli numbers we love to see. Focus on the cricket, not the social media drama. #RCB

Social media algorithms do weird things all the time. I've had accidental likes happen to me too! People need to chill and stop making mountains out of molehills. Let the man focus on his game in peace. 🙏
