Kremlin calls Trump's frustration with Ukraine peace talks understandable

Kremlin spokesman Peskov says Trump's emotional stance on stalled Ukraine peace talks is "completely understandable" given his personal involvement and business approach.

"President Trump is quite emotional... about this issue. This is completely understandable - Dmitry Peskov"

Moscow, September 20

The "emotional" attitude of US President Donald Trump toward the Ukraine peace process is "completely understandable," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said, according to RT.

The US leader has repeatedly voiced frustration with the stalled process, admitting that he earlier believed Ukraine "would be easiest" to resolve given his ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"He's really let me down," Trump said on Thursday.

Asked about the remarks, Peskov indicated that Moscow understands Trump's disappointment, noting his personal involvement in efforts to settle the conflict.

"We assume that the US and President Trump personally maintain their political will and intention to continue their efforts to facilitate a settlement in Ukraine. Therefore, of course, President Trump is quite emotional, so to speak, about this issue. This is completely understandable," Peskov told reporters.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also addressed Trump's comments, telling Russia's Channel One that the US president's frustration reflects his business-oriented approach to politics.

"The US president is a man of action, deals, and business, as he himself constantly emphasizes," Lavrov said.

"When President Trump says he's disappointed... it's partially explained by the fact that he wants quick solutions. In some areas, this may work; in others, it's unlikely," RT reported.

In recent weeks, Trump has signaled displeasure with the lack of progress in talks, warning of new sanctions on Russia.

He has reiterated his readiness to impose further restrictions but insisted that Washington's European allies must first stop buying Russian oil.

"I'm willing to do other things, but not when the people that I'm fighting for are buying oil from Russia," Trump said, RT noted.

Interesting how Russia is being diplomatic about Trump's comments. From Indian perspective, we've seen how complicated Russia-Ukraine relations can be. Hope peace talks resume properly - too many innocent people are suffering in this conflict.

Trump thinking Ukraine would be "easiest" shows he underestimated the situation. International conflicts aren't business deals that can be closed quickly. India maintains good relations with both Russia and US - hope we can play constructive role if needed.

The oil sanctions point is valid though. European countries buying Russian oil while expecting US to lead sanctions doesn't make sense. Trump has a point about allies needing to be consistent in their approach.

Russia's response seems calculated to keep Trump engaged. They know he responds to flattery and "understanding." Smart diplomatic move from Moscow, but hope real progress happens beyond just words. Peace should be the ultimate goal for everyone involved.

While I understand the frustration, world leaders should be more measured in their public statements. Saying Putin "let me down" sounds too personal for international diplomacy. These are serious matters affecting millions of people.
