Ahmedabad, May 5

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has successfully finalised the online admission allotment process for over 20,000 students in standard 5 who have qualified in this year's Common Entrance Test. This process ensures their admission to 115 residential schools across Gujarat, as per the statement.

The CM was joined by Education Minister Dr Kuber Dindor and Minister of State for Education Praful Pansheriya.

According to the release, under the Chief Minister's guidance, the Education Department has adopted an approach to provide admission opportunities in various government schemes to CET-qualified students through a state-developed common portal. Under this initiative, the State Examination Board conducted the CET for Class 5 students on March 22 this year. The CM then allocated online scholarships and residential school admissions to the students who cleared the CET, supporting their education.

The release also stated that over Rs16 crores was disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer to 30,000 students, 14,595 boys and 15,405 girls, under Mukhayamantri Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship Yojana.

This is a fantastic initiative by Gujarat government! Residential schools provide equal opportunities to bright students from rural areas. My nephew got selected last year and his English/math skills have improved dramatically. More states should adopt this model 🇮🇳

Great to see focus on girl students (15,405 girls vs 14,595 boys). But I hope they're monitoring hostel facilities properly - safety and hygiene must be priority. The scholarship amount seems decent but should be reviewed annually considering inflation.

Online process is good but what about digital divide? Many villages still have poor internet. Government should ensure physical help centers too. Otherwise brilliant students might miss out due to technical issues.

As a teacher, I've seen how residential schools transform lives 👏 But they must include regular counseling sessions - many kids struggle with homesickness. Also hope they're teaching life skills along with academics.

ज़रूरी है लेकिन 20,000 seats are too few for Gujarat's population. Why not expand to 50,000? Education budget should be increased - this is better investment than statues and fancy projects. Our children's future comes first!

The transparency in DBT scholarships is commendable 👍 Hope they publish annual performance reports too - parents deserve to know how these schools are performing academically. More vernacular medium options please!
