Our double-engine govt allocated three times more money for development of Bihar: PM Modi

PM Modi claims triple funding for Bihar under double-engine government, accuses RJD-Congress of obstructing state's progress during election rally in Aurangabad.

"We allocated three times more money for the development of Bihar - PM Narendra Modi"

Aurangabad, November 7

Ahead of the second phase of Bihar elections on November 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the RJD and Congress of "obstructing Bihar's progress" during Nitish Kumar's first nine years as Chief Minister, and his "double-engine" government had allocated "three times more money" for the development of Bihar.

"During the first 9 years of Nitish Kumar as the CM, there was an RJD-Congress government at the centre... They constantly obstructed Bihar's development. They did not let Nitish Kumar work... In 2014, when I got the opportunity to serve, a double-engine government was formed in Bihar. We allocated three times more money for the development of Bihar...," PM Modi said at a public rally.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sounding the poll bugle in Bihar's Aurangabad on Friday, took a sarcastic jab at the Opposition's 'rift-ridden' Mahagathbandhan alliance claiming that the Congress "does not have faith" in its ally RJD's manifesto, which he said was "a packet of lies".

Aurangabad district, located in the south of Bihar, is one of the 20 districts, where polls will be held during the second phase of the State's Assembly elections. The district contains six assembly constituencies namely Goh, Obra, Nabinagar, Kutumba (SC), Aurangabad and Rafiganj.

"Even the Congress does not have faith in their (RJD) promises. Congress does not even talk about the RJD's manifesto. Bihar has also rejected RJD's package of lies," PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Aurangabad.

Speculation has been rife over an alleged rift in the Mahagathbandhan. While the alliance partners, including Congress have denied such claims, PM Modi had earlier claimed that the RJD "forcefully" took the Chief Ministerial post from Congress despite the latter's objections during the negotiation phase during the election preparations.

On Novermber 6, voting was held on 121 seats spread across 18 districts and recorded a voter turnout of 64.5 per cent. The second phase of assembly polls is set to be held on November 11, with counting of votes to be held on November 14.

In the second phase, 122 seats in 20 districts will go to polls and subsequently conclude polling for the Bihar elections. Districts including Aurangabad, Jahanabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Bhagalpur, Purnia and others will be included in the second phase.

While I appreciate the increased funding, I wish we could see more transparency in how these funds are actually being utilized at the ground level. Sometimes the benefits don't reach the common people as they should.

The RJD-Congress era was truly disastrous for Bihar. Constant political instability and corruption hampered growth. At least now we have stable governance and proper development funds. Jai Bihar! 🙏

As someone who has lived in Bihar for 5 years, I can see the visible improvements in infrastructure. The roads are better, electricity is more reliable, and there's definitely more economic activity happening.

Triple the funding is impressive, but what about employment generation? Our youth still migrate to other states for jobs. Development should focus on creating local employment opportunities too.

The opposition alliance does seem confused and divided. How can they govern Bihar effectively when they can't even agree among themselves? Better to stick with a stable government that delivers results.
