Patna, May 12

In a major move aimed at reforming the education sector, the government of Bihar has announced strict measures to curb arbitrary practices in private schools and enhance transparency.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to maintain close vigilance over private institutions and ensure strict compliance with regulations.

He also issued a stern warning that any violation of the new directives will invite strict action.

Under the new framework, all private schools will be required to publicly disclose complete details of their fee structures.

The government has made it clear that arbitrary fee hikes and unnecessary charges will not be tolerated.

In a significant relief to parents, schools will no longer be allowed to compel them to purchase books and uniforms from specific vendors.

Parents will now have the freedom to buy these items from any shop of their choice, which will bring them significant financial relief.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also emphasised that no student should be barred from appearing in examinations or receiving results due to pending fees, ensuring that academic progress is not disrupted over financial issues.

Sharing the announcement on the social media platform X, Samrat Choudhary said the initiative is a pivotal step toward ensuring transparency and accountability in private schools.

"It is now mandatory for private schools to disclose full details of fees. Arbitrary hikes and unnecessary charges are strictly prohibited. Students will not be denied exams or results due to pending fees," he stated.

The Chief Minister's statement is significant, given the annual fee, tuition fee, and transport fee enhancements of 10 per cent each year.

Apart from that, many schools provide books, stationery, and uniforms to students on their campus.

The Samrat Choudhary government believes these reforms will make Bihar's education system more transparent, equitable, and accessible, while effectively curbing exploitative practices in private institutions.

Finally someone is listening to parents' complaints! I have two kids in private school and the book + uniform racket is a nightmare โ€“ they force us to buy from one shop at double the market price. This is a game changer. But I'm skeptical about implementation... Bihar government has a history of making big announcements that fizzle out. Let's see if this actually works.

As someone who studied in Bihar's government schools before moving abroad, I'm impressed. This is exactly what India needs more of โ€“ practical reforms that help the common man. The exam ban removal is particularly important; no child should suffer because of financial issues. Kudos to CM Samrat Choudhary for taking this step. ๐Ÿ‘

Good intentions but poorly thought out. Private schools have legitimate costs โ€“ teacher salaries, infrastructure, inflation. Capping fees without understanding their financial models could force quality schools to compromise or shut down. Also, parents buying books from outside might get substandard materials. Need a balanced approach, not just populist measures. ๐Ÿค”

Living in Patna, I've seen firsthand how private schools exploit parents โ€“ "donation" fees, "development" charges, hidden costs everywhere. This is a brave move by CM Choudhary. But implementation is key: will the education department have enough inspectors? Will there be a helpline for complaints? Without teeth, this is just press release material. Hope they prove me wrong! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ

This is a great step towards educational equity. In many countries, such transparency is standard. But I worry about the exam ban removal clause โ€“ if a school
