He added that the government had already planned the programme and was moving ahead with it in a structured manner. "Our government plans the programme for the country... Congress and the rest of the opposition want to postpone it by any means," he said.

His remarks came after the decision to issue a gazette notification for the 16th Census, with caste enumeration.

Sukanta Majumdar said, "We welcome this decision. It was pending since long time. Census will start from March 1, 2027. It will help the government in planning for the future after getting the data of the census."

The census will include caste enumeration for the first time. As many as 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors and around 1.3 lakh census functionaries will conduct the operation with cutting-edge mobile digital gadgets."

Finally some action on caste census! This data is crucial for proper policy making. But why wait till 2027? Should be done sooner. Hope the digital process will be transparent and efficient. 🤞

While census is important, I'm concerned about how this data might be misused for political gains. We've seen what happened in Bihar. The government must ensure strict data protection measures.

The minister is right about Congress always raising questions without solutions. But BJP should also not use this as election ammunition. Let's focus on development, not divisive politics.

Good move! Accurate caste data will help in better implementation of welfare schemes. But I hope they include proper verification to prevent fake claims that deprive genuine beneficiaries.

Instead of focusing on caste, why can't we have a census based on economic status? Caste-based politics is taking us backwards. Sabka saath, sabka vikas should mean moving beyond these divisions.
