Kokrajhar, August 20

Ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prospects, highlighting the party's extensive campaign efforts across the region.

"BJP has conducted rallies in a total of 36 Council areas so far. BJP has decided which seats it will contest. The party will form a policy, and after the date of voting is announced, it will announce candidates on the seats where it will win... BJP is in a good position in Bodoland," Sarma said while addressing the media in Kokrajhar.

The Chief Minister also responded to questions regarding the future of the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC). "Whether VCDC should be scrapped or not will be decided only by the government that forms here. BJP is not the enemy of anyone," Sarma remarked.

Meanwhile, the Assam State Election Commission on Wednesday published the final photo electoral rolls for 40 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) constituencies containing 26.58 lakh voters. A total of 26,58,477 voters include 13,23,673 male voters, 13,34,787 female voters and 17 other voters included in the final voter list.

According to the Assam State Election Commission, there are 3279 polling stations in 40 Bodoland Territorial Council constituencies. The election for 40 council constituencies of the Bodoland Territorial Council is likely to be held in the month of September.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam State BJP president Dilip Saikia said that the BJP will fight alone in the BTC elections.

In the last council election, the BJP and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) had formed the Bodoland Territorial Council government.

Good to see women voters outnumbering men in the electoral rolls! 👏 Representation matters. Hope the elected council focuses on women's safety and employment opportunities in BTR region.

BJP going alone this time shows their confidence. But they should remember that regional parties understand local issues better. Hope they don't ignore the unique needs of Bodoland people.

As someone from Kokrajhar, I just want peace and development. Doesn't matter which party wins as long as they work for the people. The VCDC system needs reform - hope the new council addresses this properly.

️ 36 rallies across council areas shows BJP's serious approach. But elections aren't just about campaigns - it's about delivering on ground. The peace accord implementation needs to be priority number one.

Interesting to see the demographic breakdown - nearly equal male and female voters! Hope the elected representatives focus on inclusive development that benefits all sections of society in Bodoland.
